Mobility Aids and Accessories
Mobility Aids and Accessories that I have and use.
This Rollator was bought after several rounds of Doctor, xrays, MRI'S and neurologist failing to correct my inability to walk (unsteadily) 30m without resting. I started with a walk to the end of my street with several rests on the seat. I'm now at the stage where I can manage short walks, resting when needed, but taking care not to exert myself as a trip to my local supermarket left me trashed for two days.
This list is not comprehensive nor is it intended to be. It’s a description of the devices and accessories that make my life easier and more comfortable. Your needs may be different and include other equipment like stair lifts, lift chairs, transition devices and specially adapted devices.
My other Mobility Scooter is a lightweight folding Scooter that can travel in anything from a car boot to an airline but is only suitable for use on smooth, level surfaces and has a limited range.
Metal Grab Rails in my toilet and shower support my needs when rising or standing
Mobility aids help me to maintain an upright movement by improving my stability, reducing the load on my damaged right knee and helping me to balance. I have several, from a compact folding stick carried on my Mobility Scooter or Power Chair which gets me from my mobility device when I encounter inaccessible areas, to a Rollator with a fold out seat for as with my very limited ability to walk or stand unaided

Mobility Scooters and Power Chair give me wheeled devices to get me from A to B and are battery powered. These were recommended for me due to my mobility/balance issues by my Occupational Therapist who also suggested the use of the unpowered device named above. Medical professional advice should always be sought as I have heard appalling experiences of Mobility Companies exploiting vulnerable people.
There are a lot of Adaptive Technology devices like Stair lifts and powered Vehicle Ramps. I live in a step free home and step free environment but if I need to go anywhere I need my Mobility Aids.
Power Chair
This is a large six wheeled Power Chair which I use for local shopping, or on some trains and buses.
I have a large Mobility Scooter for longer local trips as it has a greater range than my Power Chair but this is not allowed on buses and some trains.
My other small Powerchair is one that can travel on any bus or train and can be used on normal surfaces but has a limited range.
From this you will see there is no single solution to mobility and powered mobility.

Your shooting stick includes a fold out seat. This is truly an amazing idea. Does it only work where the stick can be secured into grass or a soft surface? Not for hard surfaces like cement?
